Bank Tavern, Keswick Outside

Superbly located in the heart of Keswick and within the pedestrianised zone, the Bank Tavern is a great stopping point for a bite to eat or a pint of real ale during a trip to browse Keswick’s fabulous array of shops and market stalls.

One of Keswick’s oldest pubs, the Bank Tavern is a local favourite and is owned by Cockermouth brewery, Jennings. Although recently renovated, the pub has retained a traditional, homely interior and like most establishments in Keswick, this inn affords a warm welcome to dogs and families with children.

The Bank Tavern in Keswick

As part of the Jennings brewery, the Bank Tavern is able to stock an excellent selection of real ale produced in the nearby Cumbrian town of Cockermouth. The inn has five resident ales – four of which are supplied by Jennings, including their popular varieties, Cumberland and Cocker Hoop. The fifth, Keswick Taverners Ale, is brewed especially for the pub by the Keswick Brewing Company. In addition, the pub has a host of guest ales that change regularly, usually sourced from breweries owned by Marstons, who own Jennings. The inn also has a reasonable wine list with a choice of nineteen varieties, almost all of which are available by the glass and are reasonably priced.

Food is available throughout the day here and the pub is popular with those shopping in Keswick. The menu is extensive, but unpretentious, packed with pub classics. This is genuine comfort food, with filling favourites, such as casserole (cooked in Jennings ale, of course), sausage and mash, and a number of different pies with a proper shortcrust pastry. There are several dishes for vegetarians and there is a children’s menu that includes all the usual favourites. Before 5pm, a number of lighter options are available, including jacket potatoes, sandwiches, and hot filled baguettes.

Other Features

Dogs are welcome at the Bank Tavern, but they must be kept on a lead and they are restricted to the bar area only, where there are tables for dining. Additionally, this pub has a small, covered beer garden at the rear of the building.
