The Hope & Anchor (Ulverston) Outside

The Hope & Anchor is a small, cosy, and welcoming pub located just off the centre of Ulverston in a quiet side street. Unassuming from the outside, it seems like an unlikely place to be a stalwart of Ulverston’s music scene, but step inside and most evenings you will be able to listen to some fantastic local talent performing live.

In particular, if you are a fan of jazz, blues, or folk music then the Hope & Anchor must be on your list for places to visit in the southern Lake District area.

The Hope & Anchor does not have a menu, but there is often food available during music and quiz nights, such as sandwiches and buffets. This pub is owned by the Robinsons brewery, and it has a good reputation for its well-kept real ales. There are six hand pumps at the bar with a selection of favourites from the Robinsons brewery available, including Dizzy Blonde, Trooper, and Hartleys XB.

The pub also has a choice of draught beers, including Guinness, Carling, and Lakeland Lager, as well as draught ciders. There is a reasonable choice of wines, gins, and spirits, plus soft drinks are available for those who prefer something non-alcoholic.

To the rear of the pub, there is a fabulous beer garden that acts as a suntrap, with some covered seating. The pub is a local favourite thanks to the numerous events that take place throughout the week. There are weekly folk and jazz nights, and you can expect to hear local bands performing most nights in the pub. Wednesday night is quiz night, which is a very popular event and the pub holds occasional charity fundraisers.
