The Traveller’s Rest (Grasmere) Outside

A charming coaching inn that dates back to the sixteenth century, the Traveller’s Rest is located on the edge of the village of Grasmere, home to the famous Grasmere Gingerbread and Wordsworth’s former home Dove Cottage. Inside this traditional Lake District inn, you will find cosy interiors brimming with period charm and snug corners.

There is plenty of locally brewed real ale, mouth-watering and filling food, and overnight accommodation if required. The inn is popular with walkers, being at the start of one of the more challenging routes up to Helvellyn, and muddy boots and paws are most welcome.

Food & Drink

TThe Traveller’s Rest (Grasmere) pub

Food is served throughout the day at the Traveller’s Rest from noon until 9pm. During the day time, a lunch time menu is in operation with extensive choices. There is a good selection of sandwiches, paninis, and jacket potatoes, as well as hot snacks, such as crab cakes or a deli board. Larger main meals are available throughout the day and the evening with most of the pub favourites making an appearance on the menu.

From Monday until Saturday, there is a set two or three course steak menu offered as an alternative to the main menu. On Sundays, this is replaced with a two or three course Sunday lunch menu where diners can choose from beef, pork, chicken, fish, or a vegetarian option. There is also a children’s menu.

The inn serves five real ales. Four are supplied by local brewery Jennings, whilst the fifth is a guest ale that changes regularly. You will also find a reasonable wine list, with many available by the glass. The well stocked bar also serves draught beers and ciders, spirits, whiskies, and a good choice of soft drinks.

Other Features

TThe Traveller’s Rest (Grasmere) beer garden

There is a delightful beer garden that is overlooked by the iconic Helm Crag, though it’s worth noting that the pub is on the main road from Keswick to Windermere and noise from traffic is inevitable. The inn also welcomes dogs into the bar area, where there are tables available for dining. Dogs are also welcome in some of the guestrooms.
