Tweedies Bar & Lodge (Grasmere) Outside

Tweedies has been a popular place for visitors to Grasmere to enjoy a pint of locally brewed real ale for some time, but recently it has undergone a full refurbishment and closer links to the adjacent hotel, formerly known as the Dale Lodge Hotel, have been established. Now rebranded as Tweedies Bar & Lodge, the two are much more intertwined, but the bar still maintains its dedication to serving real ale.

Located in a quiet corner of Grasmere, this lively bar is a fabulous place to grab a bite to eat or enjoy a pint, especially on a warm summer’s day when visitors can make the most of the spacious beer garden. Inside, you will find fresh, contemporary interiors and a warm welcome for dogs, children, and muddy boots.

Food & Drink

Tweedies Bar & Lodge (Grasmere) pub

For real ale aficionados, Tweedies is one of the best places to head to in Grasmere. The bar has ten hand pumps with eight for real ale and two for real cider. The ales that are available are changed regularly and sourced mostly from local breweries, though occasionally the bar does feature ales from the across the UK. Additional keg beers are available on draught, with some European brands available.

There is an extensive selection of bottled beers and ciders, with over 30 in stock, offering a good mixture of local, national, and international brews. Whilst the focus may be on the beer, wine drinkers are certainly not neglected, with 20 on a list that covers all the basics. There are a variety of gins on offer, including locally distilled varieties, as well as a wide selection of whiskies and other spirits.

The Menu

Food is served twice a day in the bar (with the adjacent hotel’s restaurant providing an alternative food service), between noon and 2.45pm (3.45 pm on Sundays) and again between 6pm and 9pm. The lunch time menu has a range of tasty sandwiches, hot snacks, and main dishes that include pub favourites, such as fish and chips.

The evening menu has an expanded choice of main dishes, with a combination of pub classics and contemporary mains. There’s a limited children’s menu and there are choices for vegetarians. There’s a tempting array of puddings, but if you prefer another savoury course then the pub offers a cheese menu with the option to pick three to be served on a platter with biscuits and chutney.
